Get involved · Volunteer with purpose

Share your time, knowledge and skills.

From a short remote contribution to a supervised community assignment, there are different ways to help people and communities thrive. Explore the opportunities below; expressions of interest do not guarantee a placement.

Nationwide coordination model

One volunteer network, connected across Kenya's 47 counties

Volunteers may express interest from any Kenyan county. County coverage here describes a proposed coordination structure, not existing offices, vacancies or deployments. We will activate local assignments only where safeguarding, supervision and resources are ready.

National coordination

Policy, approved role catalogue, training standards, safeguarding and reporting.

County coordination

Verified volunteer contacts, assignments, logistics and county-level oversight where capacity exists.

Local assignments

Community or enterprise work with an identified supervisor, timeframe and approval.

Assignments, reporting and approved allowances

Assignment and supervision

Every placement should have a defined role, approved work plan, named supervisor, timeframe, safety review and appropriate systems access.

Reports and recognition

Volunteers report completed activities and hours with proportionate evidence. Supervisors review submissions before these become verified contributions or certificates.

Allowances when available

A volunteer role does not automatically include payment. Approved travel, meals, accessibility, communications or materials expenses may be supported only where agreed in writing, budgeted and independently verified.

Programme, volunteer, donor and employee records operate within the same Foundation system, with separate permissions, confidential safeguarding records and Finance-controlled payments.

Explore ways to contribute

These are role families, not confirmed vacancies. Match your interests, availability and location with an appropriately supervised opportunity. Remote contributions are welcome where a role permits them.

Your safety, dignity and autonomy matter

Volunteer roles are voluntary, defined and supervised. We explain anticipated time commitments, accessibility, data access, appropriate expenses, safeguarding responsibilities and who to contact about a concern before work begins. We do not use AI to make final suitability or safeguarding decisions. Some assignments require references, training or additional lawful checks.

Recognition and career progression

Volunteer experience can open doors—not guarantee employment.

We value sustained, high-quality volunteer service. Where funding and policies allow, volunteers may receive approved assignment expenses, training, mentoring, accessibility support, verified references or recognition. Length of service alone does not establish an allowance, wage, benefit or staff position.

Support for committed volunteers

  • Approved assignment expense reimbursements
  • Training and professional-development opportunities
  • Mentorship and career guidance
  • Reference letters based on independently verified work
  • Accessibility support and safety provisions
  • Recognition certificates
  • Optional wellbeing and insurance protection when approved

Pathway to Foundation employment

  1. Volunteer contribution
  2. Skills and performance record
  3. Open funded vacancy
  4. Fair application and interview
  5. Independent human selection
  6. Written employment offer
  7. Probationary employment
  8. Confirmation into renewable fixed-term employment
  9. Renewal or lawful exit

Where an approved vacancy exists, a volunteer may apply through a fair recruitment process alongside other candidates. Successful candidates receive a written employment contract with a specified probation period, followed by confirmation and a fixed-term renewable arrangement where agreed. Renewal is not automatic. Recruitment, pay, probation, renewal and statutory benefits follow applicable employment law and human approval.
